Vtg 11" Composition Doll Native American Indian Girl Costume Compo Antique

Description

This vintage compostion doll is dressed in a lovely cotton embroidered dress of Native American styling and has painted on boots. She has long braids, ribbon headband and a string of glass neck beads. The doll is approx. 11″. Her legs and arms are fastened on with wires. I think she was made up on a standard little girl doll mold, as the feet have molded shoes and socks and her molded mouth is wider than the painted rosebud lips she received.

The doll has beautiful face paint and her costume is in good condition. I found nothing to indicate maker, but her clothes are glued on so there may be something underneath I cannot see or feel.

To clarify the doll’s construction, from what I can feel through her clothing- The head is on a breastplate and is not move able. The arms and legs are attached with the heavy wire to a soft body under the clothes which feels like it is stuffed with straw, excelsior or something crunchy like that. It could be some other type of stuffing, but definitely not soft batting. There is no sign of leakage of the stuffing and no odors from it. Not sure if the breastplate is glued on or what, but it is not loose at all.

Condition- Overall, I feel this doll is in very good condition, but I will point out a few things if they are of concern- Dress front is faded in front, not as bright red as the back, and clothes do have age-related soil. Belt is loose on one side. There is some black transfer from her braids on the dress straps and her hands. Tiny nick on nose. A couple scuffs to shoe paint, and an extra spot of paint on back of one leg. Legs hang naturally a bit to her left. The doll stand seen in some pictures is not included in this auction.
